The Man Behind The Sound
Matthew Ahearne is an audio and sound engineer based in Phoenix, Arizona. He specializes in on-set production sound, post-production sound design, and live sound mixing for film, television, theatre, music performance, and online digital media.
Growing up in the age of digital video media, storytelling became second nature for him. He would stay up late at night creating worlds for his LEGO figurines and playsets. For him, the included instruction books were just the starting point for new adventures. When he got his hands on an iPod Touch for his 11th birthday, he discovered YouTube, and from there, he was enthralled. Bundled up in bed with sheets hiding him, he watched as people's creativity and sense of wonder filled the screen and, in turn, his head. Fast-forward and various backyard videos later, he found a passion for videography and editing, transforming these stories into real-life pieces.
He aspires to help others tell the stories they want, make their dreams a reality, and inspire others with his work. He believes a story can exist anywhere. Within ourselves is a story of who we are and how we came to be. To fundamentally understand these stories would take a lifetime, literally. This is what fires him up. The opportunity to not only share these people's stories and how meaningful they are but also help others see their stories as something of value, something to be proud of, and something to tell the world of.
Production-wise, he is proficient with recording devices from SoundDevices and Zoom and microphones from DPA, Lectrosonics, Sanken, and Sennheiser. Post-production-wise, he is proficient with Avid Pro Tools, Dolby Atmos, iZotope, Avid S6, Avid S4, and Midas M32.
He graduated with a Film & Media Production BA from the Sidney Poitier New American Film School at Arizona State University. He is also a graduate of Barrett, the Honors College, and has two minors and one certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Studio Art, and Sales and Marketing Essentials respectively.
